The colors and the spirit of Christmas come together beautifully in this elegant necklace. The colors invoke a cranberry and popcorn garland feel but the end result is completely upscale.
This is a simple stringing project. The complexity is in making sure your pattern stays the same throughout. The piece as shown has a repeating pattern of 6 segments.
Our piece starts by adding a gold filled rondelle, a 5-point star bead, a bordeaux Swarovski pearl, another 5-point star bead and another gold filled rondelle. This completes the first segment. Then add a Bali bead cap, a large clear Swarovski crystal round and another Bali bead cap. This completes the second segment. The third segment is a repeat of the first segment. For the next segment, add a Bali bead cap, a white Swarovski pearl and another Bali bead cap. This completes the forth segment. Then add a gold filled rondelle, the large Bali silver bead and then another gold filled rondelle. That completes the fifth segment. The sixth segment is a repeat of the fourth segment. That completes the pattern. Repeat the full pattern 2 more times. Once that is complete, add one more each of segments 1 through 3. This will make the entire necklace balance. Keep this in mind as you make your creation. If you need yours to be longer than the 16" version shown, you will have to balance your pattern accordingly.
Once your beading is done, add the clasp. We have taken a fancy leaf style hook & eye clasp and separated the 2 pieces. We have used the large hook part as the clasp and crimped it as usual at one end of the necklace. We have added 2" of chain as an extender to the other end of the necklace. Crimp the other end of the necklace directly to the extender chain. If you decide to use a different chain, just make sure that the links are large enough for the hook of the clasp to go through. We then took the smaller eye part of our clasp unit and dangled it from the bottom of the extender chain. The last ring on the extender chain was snipped open at the side and became the jump ring to attach the drop. If you are making your piece without an extender chain then attach the clasp unit to the necklace as you typically would. Your necklace is complete and is ready for all your fashionable holiday events.
